Festive jingles

As autumn settles over Kathmandu, the city begins to change. The air turns cool and crisp, and the sky deepens into a clear, endless blue. Dashain arrives first, followed by the glow of Tihar, painting the city in soft light and quiet celebration.
While many people leave for their hometowns, Thamel takes on a different kind of life. The streets grow calmer, but the air feels lighter, full of warmth and new stories. Inside Pumpernickel, mornings begin with the scent of freshly baked bread and coffee drifting through the open doors. Travelers gather at the tables, watching the soft sunlight spill across the room, sharing stories of where they have been and where they are going next.
There is a gentle joy in these festive weeks. The city slows, but our bakery stays alive, carrying that feeling of comfort and connection that has always defined Pumpernickel. The laughter, the aroma, and the quiet buzz of conversation blend perfectly with the season’s calm energy.
As the skies stay blue and the evenings glow with light, we are reminded why this time of year feels so special. It is when Kathmandu feels both peaceful and alive, and Pumpernickel continues to be its warm little heartbeat.
So under these festive skies, you are welcome to share the same sense of togetherness that began decades ago in our small wooden house in Thamel.
