Our Sweet Story of Balance

At Pumpernickel, we’ve always believed that baking is an act of care. It’s in the early mornings, the quiet testing of recipes, the soft hum of the oven, and the joy of watching someone take the first bite. Every loaf, every pastry, every cake, we make them with intention. But even with the best intentions, there is always room to grow.

A few months ago, one of our regular customers left a small note. It was about our Triple Chocolate Cake—a longtime favorite. “It’s good,” the note said, “but maybe a little too sweet?”

That comment stayed with us because at Pumpernickel, feedback is something we take at heart. We listen. We reflect. We bake again.

So, we went back to the kitchen.

We started tasting our cakes not just for indulgence, but for balance. We began rethinking how sweetness interacts with texture, how richness feels on the tongue, and how a dessert can leave you smiling, 

Now, every cake that comes out of our oven carries that lesson. We’ve found a way to master the right level of sweetness for a guilt free indulgence that still hits the spot!

We didn’t just focus on the Triple Chocolate Cake, we took the review as a sign to look at all our recipes with fresh eyes. We found a way to lower the sugar content in all our cakes. So now, all our cakes are balanced to bring out natural flavors, rich textures, and that just-right sweetness

Each bite is thoughtful, satisfying, and made to feel like home.
